Chao Xu, a 33-year-old man from Greenwich, south-east London, is set to be sentenced for 24 sexual offences committed over a three-year period. He has pleaded guilty to charges including rape, sexual assault, upskirting, voyeurism, and administering incapacitating drugs.
Xu's offending came to light after a networking event where he offered a woman who felt unwell a place to stay, subsequently raping her multiple times. Investigations revealed he had drugged her and also planted hidden cameras in locations such as an air freshener and bathrooms, capturing hundreds of images and videos of women without their consent. The court also heard about instances of upskirting at a workplace and on the London Underground.
He admitted to four counts of rape, eight counts of assault by penetration, four counts of sexual assault, four counts of voyeurism, two counts of administering a substance with intent, and two counts of upskirting between February 2022 and June 2025. The judge indicated that a lengthy custodial sentence is the inevitable outcome. The Crown will not proceed with charges for one count of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration.
