William Poff, 53, drowned in the Trinity River in Texas after attempting to rescue his son, 14-year-old Jake Poff, and Jake's 15-year-old friend, Eric Lynn, whose kayak capsized due to choppy conditions on November 9th. Authorities responded to the incident after witnesses reported the overturned kayak. William Poff entered the water to save the two juveniles but did not resurface.
Three days later, on November 12th, William Poff's body was recovered from the river. Sadly, both Jake Poff and Eric Lynn were also found deceased. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department confirmed Poff's death and extended condolences to the families of all three victims. The San Jacinto Sheriff's Office expressed their prayers for those affected by the tragic event and gratitude for the agencies and volunteers who assisted in the search efforts.
