Illegal immigrant trucker accused of causing fatal California crash pleads not guilty

Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old from India accused of causing a fatal pile-up on the 10 Freeway in California, has pleaded not guilty to downgraded charges. Initially, authorities claimed Singh was under the influence of drugs when his semi-truck crashed into slow-moving traffic, resulting in three deaths and four injuries. However, blood tests revealed no drugs or alcohol were present. Singh's charges have been reduced from vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence to vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and reckless driving. He now faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted, compared to a potential 17 years under the prior charges. His request for bail was denied, and his next court date is set to address his motion to wear his Sikh turban in court.
