Millions of Americans won’t get any SNAP benefits in November under USDA plan, analysis finds

An analysis by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that nearly 5 million Americans will not receive any Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in November due to a plan issued by the Trump administration. This plan aims to comply with a government shutdown by using contingency funds for partial benefits, but the reduction method results in significantly deeper cuts than necessary. The Department of Agriculture stated it would obligate $4.65 billion in emergency funds to cover 50% of eligible households' current allotments. However, the agency's plan to states calls for providing only about $3 billion, leading to an average cut of 61% for the month, while only a 43% cut would be needed to align spending with available funds.
