Krystian Debinski, a Polish national with a history of burglary and a recent conviction for rape, was allowed back into the UK despite facing a jail sentence in his home country. Debinski, 44, was extradited from Britain in June 2020 after serving part of a seven-year sentence for burglary. While imprisoned in the UK, Polish authorities rearrested him for a 2015 rape of a teenage girl, to which he consented to extradition.
In January 2022, Debinski was sentenced in Poland to four years and eight months for the rape offense, with the decision confirmed by an appeal court in September 2023. However, before commencing his sentence, he absconded and returned to the UK using a different name. He was arrested again in May of the previous year in Southend, Essex, and has been held in Wandsworth Prison since.
A ruling at Westminster Magistrates' Court last month ordered Debinski's extradition back to Poland. During his extradition hearing, his legal team argued against removal, citing family life and health issues. District Judge John Zani acknowledged the hardship but stated it was not sufficient to prevent extradition, considering Debinski's criminal record and a previous recommendation for deportation.
