Former D. C.
Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone had a heated verbal altercation with conservative activist Ivan Raiklin during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday. The exchange occurred during a recess in testimony from former DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith.
Fanone, who defended the Capitol during the January 6th, 2021 riot, accused Raiklin of threatening his family and children, including threats of sexual assault. Fanone reportedly began cursing when Raiklin attempted to shake his hand.
Despite attempts by others to intervene, Fanone continued to verbally accost Raiklin, calling him a "traitor" and a "sick bastard," while Raiklin remained composed. Raiklin is known for spreading misinformation about the 2020 election and the January 6th Capitol attack.
Fanone, after resigning from the police force, became an activist and author speaking out against political violence.
