The incident prompted a response from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, with two fire engines attending the scene to remove the dislodged tiles and flashing from the roof, ensuring the area was made safe.
The shopping park confirmed that the area surrounding five stores—Currys, Pets at Home, Bensons for Beds, Asda Living, and Wren—remains temporarily closed to prioritize the safety of customers and staff. This closure is in place as the storm continues and measures are taken to address the damage.
Elk Mill Shopping Park stated that the safety of its visitors and colleagues is paramount and that they acted swiftly in partnership with the fire service. The rest of the shopping center is open and operating as usual.
The park is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates to staff and customers. There have been no reported injuries as a result of the incident.
