Prince Harry testified in court, becoming emotional as he stated that media attacks had made Meghan's life "an absolute misery." He is suing Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), the publisher of the Mail titles, alleging unlawful information gathering, including phone hacking and "blagging" private records. Harry described the legal action as a "recurring traumatic experience" and denied claims that he used a pseudonym on Facebook to contact a Mail on Sunday journalist, disputing the suggestion that he socialized with the journalist in Ibiza.
He explained his consistently "uneasy relationship" with the press, stemming from his mother's death, and how the institution's policy was to "never complain, never explain." Harry claims 14 articles published by ANL between 2001 and 2013 were based on unlawful information gathering and were written in a "highly intrusive and damaging way," citing examples related to his mother, his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy, and his relationship with Cressida Bonas. He expressed concern about the terrifying intrusion into his ex-girlfriends' lives and the constant feeling of his private life being "displayed to the world for amusement, entertainment and money." ANL has strongly denied wrongdoing and is defending the claims.
