A recent UCLA study suggests that Generation Z, encompassing individuals aged 10 to 24, shows a declining interest in sexual content, romance, and love triangles within movies and television. The "Teens & Screens" survey, conducted with 1,500 participants reflecting diverse demographics, found that nearly half of respondents believe there is "too much sexual content" in media.
The study revealed a strong preference for platonic relationships, with 60.9 percent wanting onscreen relationships to focus more on friendship than sex, and 59.7 percent desiring stories where friendships are central. Friendship ranked as the third most desired topic for onscreen representation, while romance ranked third to last.
Furthermore, over half of the surveyed individuals, and a higher percentage among those 18 and under, expressed a desire to see stories about characters uninterested in romance.
