Elon Musk sent a public thank you note to former President Donald Trump on X, formerly Twitter, following Trump's prompting at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum. During the event, Trump publicly acknowledged Musk's attendance and his company Tesla, suggesting Musk was fortunate to have his support regarding potential domestic car purchase deductions in a government spending plan.
Trump directly asked Musk if he had ever thanked him properly, leading to Musk's subsequent post. Musk's message stated, "I would like to thank President Trump for all he has done for America and the world." This public expression of gratitude comes after a period of significant fallout between the two.
Musk had previously served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency but resigned in May and subsequently criticized a spending bill championed by Trump. Their relationship appeared to be strained further when Musk announced he was leaving Twitter's board in response to the bill.
Trump had retaliated by criticizing Musk. Despite their public disagreements and Musk's departure from his advisory role, the two had been seen together at a memorial service for conservative activist Dick Kirk in September.
Trump had also mentioned Musk approaching him at that event. Musk's attendance at Trump's dinner for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on November 18th preceded the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum where the latest exchange occurred.
