A major US cybersecurity firm, based in Seattle, has disclosed a "catastrophic" breach of its networks. State-backed hackers from China are being blamed for the incident, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The intruders achieved "long-term, persistent access" to certain systems within the company. During the breach, they stole portions of the source code for the company's BIG-IP suite of application services. This suite is extensively used by Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.
