The Stone Roses bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield has died at the age of 63. His brother Greg announced the news on Facebook, stating it was with heavy hearts that he had to announce his brother's passing, and that he was reunited with his wife Imelda.

Mani is believed to have died at home after collapsing, and an ambulance was unable to revive him. Liam Gallagher, a close friend of Mani's, expressed his shock and devastation on X, calling Mani his hero.

Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays also paid tribute, sharing a photo of himself with Mani and offering condolences to his twin sons and family. Rowetta, another member of Happy Mondays, also shared her grief and sent love to Mani's family.

Fans flooded social media with tributes, describing feeling "hollow" and expressing that Manchester's musical beat would never be the same. Mani's last social media post was on November 13, advertising an upcoming intimate evening tour where he planned to share his life experiences and insights into his career with The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and other aspects of his life.

This tour was scheduled to begin in September 2026. Mani's death comes two years after his wife Imelda died of bowel cancer.

The couple had twin sons, Gene Clarke and George Christopher, who are 12 years old. Mani, originally from Crumpsall in Manchester, rose to fame in the 1980s with The Stone Roses, playing on both of the band's albums.

He left the band in 1996, later joining Primal Scream before reforming The Stone Roses in 2011.
