Funeral director Robert Bush has pleaded guilty to 35 counts of fraud by false representation. These charges stem from a lengthy investigation into his funeral home after human remains were discovered on his premises. The fraud charges allege that Bush dishonestly assured bereaved families he would properly care for deceased remains, arrange for timely cremations, and that the ashes provided were indeed those of their loved ones. He also admitted to four charges concerning the false representation of foetal remains as those of unborn children.
The investigation by Humberside Police began in March of the previous year following a report of concern for the care of the deceased at Bush's funeral home, Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull. Officers subsequently removed 35 bodies and human ashes from the premises, identifying 163 families who may be affected by the ashes. The police received over 2,000 calls from concerned families during the investigation.
