After the alleged assault and theft, McGriff is accused of setting the couple's home ablaze. Prosecutors stated that Maureen Olton was still alive when the fire started, and she was later found with a fractured larynx and soot in her respiratory system. McGriff then allegedly used the stolen credit cards for a shopping spree, purchasing clothing from Macy's and pawning the couple's cellphones. He also reportedly went to a movie theater on their dime.
