Police have named Jonathan Carley, 64, from Gwynedd, Wales, as the suspect accused of impersonating an admiral at a Remembrance Sunday wreath-laying ceremony. Public concern grew after images circulated on social media showing Carley, dressed in a naval uniform adorned with 12 medals, saluting the war memorial.
The Royal Navy deemed such an act insulting to veterans, noting that Carley appeared to be wearing a Distinguished Service Order, a medal not typically awarded to naval officers and not issued for over 30 years. Carley has been charged with wearing a uniform or dress bearing the mark of His Majesty's Forces without permission and is scheduled to appear in court on December 11.
Police are investigating the incident and have urged the public to avoid speculation to protect ongoing court proceedings.
