A woman has died and her husband is in a critical condition following a stabbing outside their home in Shrewsbury Down, Cork. The attack occurred around 9:30 PM on Monday, with neighbours calling emergency services after witnessing the incident.
Paramedics performed CPR on both victims before they were taken to Cork University Hospital. The woman, aged 59, unfortunately passed away in hospital, while her husband's injuries are described as serious.
A man, believed to be in his twenties and known to the couple, was arrested at the scene. He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and was awaiting medical assessment to determine his fitness to be questioned by police.
The area was cordoned off for a forensic examination.
