Multiple police officers were attacked, with one requiring hospitalization, during a violent incident downtown Chicago on Friday night. The attacks occurred while officers responded to a shooting that left at least five victims injured.
The event unfolded around 10 p.m. near State and Randolph streets, following a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Reports indicated that approximately 300 juveniles were involved in a riot, contributing to the chaos. One of the victims sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds to the torso and was in critical condition.
Officers faced assaults involving mace and stun guns. While a city alderman provided details, police had not officially confirmed all aspects of the incident, including the exact number of victims.
