The organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, LA28, has added several prominent Republican figures with ties to former President Trump to its board of directors. These new members include former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Reince Priebus who served as Trump's White House Chief of Staff, major GOP donor Diane Hendricks, and Patrick Dumont, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and son-in-law to a significant Trump donor.
Investment banker Ken Moelis, who worked with Trump in the 1990s, also joined the board. This expansion of the board with Trump-aligned individuals is seen as an indicator of the former president's increasing involvement in the major Los Angeles event.
While the exact reasons for the board expansion and the selection process for these individuals are not clear, LA28 chair Casey Wasserman stated that the new members will help create unforgettable Games. This development comes as President Trump has shown interest in playing a more active role in the 2028 Games, viewing them as a chance to showcase American exceptionalism.
He previously signed an executive order establishing a White House task force for the Games and expressed willingness to deploy military personnel for security. Wasserman has previously thanked Trump for his support in planning the Olympics.
