Meta has removed a Facebook page that was used to track the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Chicago. The company confirmed this action was taken at the request of the Department of Justice.
The Attorney General stated on X that after outreach from the DOJ, Facebook removed a "large group page" that was being used to target ICE officials. Meta explained that the page was removed for violating their policies against coordinated harm.
This action follows similar restrictions by other tech companies. Earlier this month, Apple and Google blocked downloads of phone apps designed to flag sightings of U.S. immigration agents, after the Trump administration requested one such iPhone app be taken down. Officials argue these tracking efforts put ICE officers at risk.
