Holiday travel mayhem as thousands of flights to be CANCELED at airports across the country due to shutdown

Due to the ongoing government shutdown, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is implementing a 10% reduction in air traffic, resulting in the cancellation of thousands of flights daily at 40 high-volume airports nationwide. This measure is being taken to ensure safety as air traffic controllers have been working without pay since October 1st, leading to staffing shortages and increased flight delays. The FAA Administrator stated they cannot wait for a crisis to act, and the agency will meet with airline executives to determine how to safely implement the flight reductions.
