Davey Brown, a 19-year-old, has been jailed for three years and one month after faking being a wheelchair user to shoplift and then assaulting a security guard. The incident occurred on June 3, 2025, after Brown had been involved in a hit-and-run collision where he drove his car at another motorist.
Following the collision, Brown went to a Sainsbury's store in Staplehurst. With the assistance of an accomplice, he pretended to be in a wheelchair and concealed two crates of beer under a jacket.
As he attempted to leave the store without paying, he was confronted by a security guard. Shocking footage shows Brown then punching the security guard and throwing beer bottles and cans at him, injuring him and another store employee.
Brown fled the scene but was apprehended by police within 30 minutes, during which he made threats and abusive comments. Brown pleaded guilty to charges including robbery, affray, damage to property, common assault, and using a vehicle without insurance.
He was also disqualified from driving. A 17-year-old who was involved was sentenced to six months in a young offenders' institution.
Police described Brown as a violent individual who endangered the public.
