Stephen Miller, a White House official, reacted extremely to internal dissent at CBS News regarding a "60 Minutes" segment. He suggested firing all employees who objected to CBS News leader Bari Weiss's decision to pull the segment at the last minute.
Weiss stated the piece, which focused on a Salvadoran prison housing deportees sent by the administration, was not ready because it lacked the perspective of "Trump and Co." However, "60 Minutes" reporter Sharyn Alfonsi reportedly argued in an internal memo that Weiss's decision was politically motivated, as the segment had passed all necessary internal reviews. Alfonsi expressed concern that allowing the administration's refusal to participate in reporting to dictate whether a story is aired would give them a "kill switch" for inconvenient coverage.
Miller, in response to a question about the "revolt" at the network under the conservative Weiss, provocatively challenged CBS employees to house migrant detainees from the prison themselves for a night. He asserted that these detainees were "monsters" who deserved their fate, and that under President Trump, such crimes would not occur.
Miller concluded by calling for the producers involved in the "revolt" to be fired to "clean house."
