The New York Islanders secured a 4-3 overtime victory against the Vegas Golden Knights. Rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer opened the scoring for the Islanders with a power-play goal in the first period. Vegas rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the third period, but Mathew Barzal tied the game with a late goal, assisted by Schaefer, after the Islanders pulled their goalie. JG Pageau scored the game-winning shorthanded goal in overtime. The game was marked by a strong performance from Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin and a successful challenge by coach Patrick Roy.
