Parts of the south of England are experiencing flooding and disruption due to heavy rain and strong winds. The Environment Agency (EA) has issued multiple flood warnings for Hampshire and Dorset, alongside numerous flood alerts for Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Travel disruption is anticipated, with the Met Office issuing a yellow rain warning for the South East, predicting continued rain and potential flooding.
Local fire and rescue services and councils are advising the public against driving through floodwater and to check routes before traveling, allowing extra time. Several venues have canceled events, such as the Borough Gardens in Dorchester's Christmas carols, and some attractions, like Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, have faced closures or warnings about waterlogged approaches. An animal welfare shelter in Fair Oak near Eastleigh has appealed for sandbags to protect its buildings and animals from rising water levels. River levels are expected to continue rising in the coming days.
