Infant botulism in 10 US states linked to formula being recalled

Federal and state health officials are investigating 13 cases of infant botulism in 10 U.S. states that have been linked to specific lots of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula. The company has agreed to recall two lots, identified by lot numbers 206VABP/251261P2 and 206VABP/251131P2, after all 13 infants who consumed formula from these batches were hospitalized. The reported cases occurred across Arizona, California, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington. No deaths have been reported in connection with these cases. The Food and Drug Administration is currently investigating the source of the contamination and whether other products might be affected. The recalled formula represents an estimated 1% of national formula sales and was available online and through major retailers.
