The Standing Rock Tribe has significantly improved electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in North Dakota through their Electric Nation project. This initiative, spanning three years, has focused on installing a network of chargers across the reservation.
This development is crucial for EV drivers, particularly those planning long-distance trips across the Midwest, as it addresses a previous lack of charging stations in the region. Len Necefer, a Navajo citizen and tribal energy expert, highlighted this challenge when his cross-country EV trip plans were hindered by the charging gap in North Dakota, only to find a charger at Sitting Bull College on the Standing Rock Reservation.
The Electric Nation project aims to create an intertribal charging network, effectively connecting reservations and bridging this essential infrastructure gap in the Midwest.
