Unsealed court documents related to the 2022 University of Idaho murders have revealed detailed forensic information about the victims' injuries and their final moments. An analysis of autopsy materials and crime scene evidence indicates that Kaylee Goncalves suffered approximately 38 sharp-force wounds, Madison Mogen had 28, Xana Kernodle sustained 67, and Ethan Chapin had 17. All four victims were discovered in their respective bedrooms and showed no signs of leaving their rooms after the attack.
Goncalves and Mogen were found together in a third-floor bedroom, indicating they likely did not stand after sustaining fatal injuries, as no blood was found on the soles of their feet. Chapin was found in Kernodle's second-floor bedroom with no blood on his socks. Kernodle, however, was found on her bedroom floor and was the only victim exhibiting signs of movement after the attack, with blood on her bare feet suggesting she moved within her room. These details have emerged following Bryan Kohberger's guilty plea to four counts of first-degree murder in July 2025, for which he received four consecutive life sentences without parole.
