A stolen single-engine Cessna C172 aircraft crashed into a building at the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles early Thursday morning, around 5 a.m.. The incident began around 4 a.m. when the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Ceffeareno Logan, allegedly trespassed onto the general aviation airport and gained access to the aircraft. Logan was arrested by the Los Angeles Airport Police on suspicion of burglary and theft of an aircraft.
Authorities stated that the plane did not take off and is believed to have struck the hangar while taxiing. Photos from the scene show a large hole in the building where the plane impacted, and the aircraft appeared to have a damaged propeller after it was removed. The FBI Los Angeles field office also responded to the scene. It is currently unclear if law enforcement is searching for other suspects.
