House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer stated that Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries' campaign solicited money from Jeffrey Epstein, citing a 2013 email from a political consulting firm. The email invited Epstein to a Democratic Party dinner and to "get to know" Jeffries, who was described as a "rising star" and "Brooklyn's Barack." The email was sent by Lisa Rossi, a partner at Dynamic SRG, to Epstein, and was forwarded by his former executive assistant.
It promoted Jeffries' work and his commitment to electing a Democratic majority in 2014, encouraging involvement in a DCCC/DSCC fundraising dinner with President Obama. The firm offered Epstein an opportunity to get involved with the dinner or to meet Jeffries.
The invite was extended about five years after Epstein pleaded guilty to sex-related charges in Florida. Federal Election Commission records do not appear to show donations from Epstein to Jeffries or the Democratic committees around the time of the email.
It remains unclear if Epstein responded to the firm or met with Jeffries. The email was part of over 20,000 documents released by House Oversight Committee Republicans as part of their Epstein investigation.
