A fire broke out on a cargo ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles on Friday, prompting the evacuation of all 23 crew members. The incident was declared a major emergency by officials, with no injuries reported among the crew.
The fire was visible on multiple levels of the vessel. Hazardous materials were present in the affected sections, leading hazmat crews to monitor air quality.
An explosion was reported mid-deck around 8 p.m., which disrupted the ship's power, including lights and crane operations. Over 100 firefighters responded to the scene to combat the blaze and manage the emergency.
Mayor Karen Bass confirmed that first responders were actively engaged in fire suppression and air quality monitoring efforts.
