The recently released full trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, "The Odyssey," has generated significant excitement among fans, particularly due to a "genuinely creepy" reveal of the Cyclops. Set to be released in July 2026, the historical epic is an adaptation of Homer's epic Greek poem. The trailer features Matt Damon as Odysseus, on his journey home after the Trojan War, with Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway also appearing as Telemachus and Penelope, respectively.
The most talked-about moment shows Odysseus and his soldiers in a cave, looking up in terror as the shadow of a giant character enters. This tease of Polyphemus, the one-eyed son of Poseidon, has been met with enthusiasm, with viewers comparing it to classic monster effects and anticipating a "scary as hell" portrayal. It is reported that Nolan, who often prefers practical effects over CGI, utilized a mechanical anthropomorphic puppet for the creature, with actor Bill Irwin, known for his work on TARS in "Interstellar," strongly suspected to be involved in the puppetry and voice work.
The film was shot in Greece, at locations including Nestor Cave and Voidokilia Beach. Matt Damon described the making of "The Odyssey" as the "best experience" of his career, calling the film "massively entertaining" and highlighting Nolan's commitment to depicting the intense and life-threatening aspects of Odysseus's journey. This marks Nolan's first film since the highly successful "Oppenheimer" and his third collaboration with Damon.
