The White House defended a second strike on a suspected drug-trafficking vessel that occurred on September 2nd, stating it was legal and conducted in self-defense. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that President Trump and Secretary Hegseth have made it clear that designated narco-terrorist groups are subject to lethal targeting under the laws of war.
She asserted that Admiral Bradley acted within his authority to ensure the boat was destroyed and the threat to the United States eliminated. Leavitt emphasized that these strikes are necessary because the administration has designated these groups as foreign terrorist organizations and that the operation was conducted in international waters in accordance with the law of armed conflict to protect American interests.
Venezuela called the strikes "murder." The White House did not comment on whether video footage of the strike would be released, deferring to the Pentagon.
