Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix after their McLaren cars failed post-race technical inspections. Both drivers were found to have excessive skid plank wear, with the minimum thickness falling below the 9mm threshold stipulated in the technical regulations.
The measurements taken by the FIA confirmed the non-compliance, even after re-measurements in the presence of McLaren representatives. This disqualification has significant implications for the 2025 F1 title race.
Max Verstappen, who won the Las Vegas Grand Prix, now closes the gap to championship leader Norris to 24 points. Piastri, who had been 30 points behind Norris before the race, is now level on points with Verstappen.
With two rounds remaining, the Qatar Grand Prix, which includes a sprint race, and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there are still 58 points available. McLaren has cancelled their scheduled media session and will issue a statement regarding the outcome.
