A pedestrian in his 80s died after being hit by a grey Mercedes estate car in Gillingham, Kent. The collision occurred on the A289 Gads Hill just after midnight on Monday, December 29. The man was initially struck by the vehicle and reportedly carried along the road, with some reports suggesting he was carried for as much as a mile before being found on Grange Lane.
Following the incident, the two occupants of the Mercedes reportedly left the vehicle in Eastcourt Lane and fled on foot. Kent Police launched an investigation, with officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit urging witnesses, or anyone who saw the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, to come forward.
Later the same day, detectives arrested two men in connection with the fatal crash: a 29-year-old from Chatham and a 28-year-old of no fixed address. Both men remain in custody. Police have also released a CCTV image of a third man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries and are appealing to the public for help in identifying him. Authorities are also seeking dashcam footage from motorists and relevant CCTV footage from residents.
