Former Yankees outfielder Cameron Maybin believes the New York Yankees should pursue a trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, arguing that such a move would make them the dominant team in the league. Maybin suggested that the Tigers are unwilling to meet Skubal's salary demands, leading to his availability in trade rumors.
Skubal, who has won consecutive American League Cy Young Awards, is considered one of baseball's top pitchers. Despite his success, the Tigers have reportedly been hesitant to offer him a new contract before he becomes a free agent after the 2026 season, fueling speculation about a potential trade.
Skubal himself expressed confusion about being consistently mentioned in trade discussions, as he is not seeking a trade. Maybin, who previously played for the Yankees, emphasized that acquiring Skubal, especially if paired with another top pitcher like Sandy Alcántara, would create a formidable rotation that would intimidate opposing lineups and solidify the Yankees' postseason chances.
He further stressed that payroll should not be a deterrent for the Yankees, asserting that a winning organization will find a way to make necessary acquisitions.
