Google is enhancing its shopping features with Gemini-powered "agentic AI," aiming to create a personalized AI shopping assistant. These new tools, launched just before the holiday season, represent a significant move towards commercializing AI for consumers.
The updated features allow users to describe desired products, such as "cozy sweaters in warm autumn colors," and receive shoppable images, comparisons, and real-time inventory information from Google's extensive Shopping Graph. Within the Gemini app, users can generate shopping lists, compare prices, and get direct links to retailers.
Additionally, Google is integrating its Duplex technology, allowing Gemini to make phone calls to local stores to verify prices and stock availability, with the results communicated via text or email. A new automated buying feature will purchase items once they reach a user-defined target price, initially supporting retailers like Wayfair, Chewy, Quince, and some Shopify merchants.
