Mississippi: second monkey escaped from overturned truck fatally shot

A second monkey that escaped from an overturned truck in Mississippi has been fatally shot. The monkey was killed on Monday evening after being seen crossing the highway, about a mile from where the truck originally overturned. A representative from the transport company recovered the deceased monkey after a civilian shot it. This incident follows the shooting death of another escaped monkey over the weekend. That monkey was killed by a woman who feared for her children's safety after her son spotted it near their home. Officials had previously warned the public not to approach the Rhesus monkeys, citing their known aggressive nature and the potential for carrying diseases, including herpes. A total of three monkeys were initially reported missing after the truck carrying 21 Rhesus monkeys overturned on Interstate 59.
