Buffalo Trace Distillery has released Sazerac Rye Whiskey Full Proof, a new iteration of its classic Sazerac Rye. This new offering is bottled at 125 proof, significantly higher than the original 90-proof expression and a recently released 100-proof version. The term "full proof" signifies that the whiskey is bottled at the same proof it entered the barrel, a distinction from "barrel proof."
Master distiller Harlen Wheatley stated that the release is in response to consumer appreciation for other full-proof options from Buffalo Trace and is made possible by a decade-long distillery expansion. Tasting notes describe the full-proof Sazerac Rye as an intensified version of the original, featuring rye spice, dill, and smoky oak on the nose, followed by sweetness, floral and herbal notes, oak, and rye character on the palate, with a peppery, warm finish.
