Conservative attorney George Conway publicly criticized U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, stating Blanche was "not fit to serve" as Deputy Attorney General following revelations about his interviews with Ghislaine Maxwell. Conway argued in a social media post that Blanche's questioning of Maxwell was either incompetent or intentionally designed to avoid incriminating facts, citing her claims of not witnessing inappropriate behavior by prominent figures.
These interviews, conducted twice in July 2025, were part of the Department of Justice's review of the Epstein case. The released transcripts showed Maxwell denying observing misconduct by figures including President Trump. Subsequently, Maxwell was moved to a lower-security prison facility, prompting Democrats to demand investigations into her alleged preferential treatment. Reports suggest Maxwell is also seeking to reduce her 20-year sentence.
Todd Blanche responded to Conway's criticism on social media, dismissing Conway as not a trial lawyer and defending his interview approach. Blanche stated that law enforcement did not have all the necessary materials, including those hidden by Epstein's estate and recently provided to Congress. He urged Conway to stop commenting, calling his posts "unbecoming." Other commentators, like Russell Foster, accused Blanche of projecting incompetence and questioned why Maxwell had not been moved back to a more secure prison given the new information. Conway re-posted Blanche's comments, sarcastically suggesting Blanche "stayed up all night composing" his response.
