The New York Jets have decided that rookie quarterback Brady Cook will start their upcoming game against the New England Patriots, marking his third start. This decision comes despite Tyrod Taylor being healthy again. In his previous three starts, Cook has thrown one touchdown and six interceptions. Last Sunday's loss to the Saints saw Cook struggle with an interception, a fumble, and limited successful deep passes.
Despite Cook's performance issues, Head Coach Aaron Glenn stated that Cook gives the Jets the best chance to win. It is widely believed the Jets are more focused on evaluating Cook's potential for the future rather than prioritizing wins in these final games, which could negatively impact their draft position. Glenn acknowledged that while Cook made mistakes, blame for the team's struggles, including sacks, is shared among the quarterback, offensive line protection, and play-calling concepts. Cook was sacked eight times in the last game, partly due to holding the ball too long, but Glenn emphasized the need for better protection from the offensive line and clearer play designs to help the quarterback get rid of the ball.
Separately, Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood expressed disappointment with his own season performance, acknowledging areas where he needs significant improvement. He plans to work on these areas during the offseason to better develop within the defense and improve his play in the remaining games.
