On Saturday evening, Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets, in collaboration with French aircraft, conducted a joint strike against an underground facility in Syria occupied by the terrorist group Isis. The target, located in the mountains north of Palmyra, was identified through intelligence analysis as a former weapons and explosives storage site. Guided bombs were employed to strike several access tunnels leading to the facility, which is situated in an area devoid of civilians.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to counter any resurgence of Isis. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that there is no indication of any risk posed to civilians by the strike, and all participating aircraft returned safely. The Defence Secretary highlighted the operation as a demonstration of UK leadership and its commitment to working with allies to eradicate the threat posed by Isis and its ideologies in the Middle East. He commended the professionalism and courage of the British Armed Forces personnel involved, emphasizing their readiness to operate year-round to ensure national security.
