A former England footballer was arrested at Stansted Airport on suspicion of attempted rape. Border Force officers identified the man as wanted by police in connection with a non-recent accusation reported by an ex-partner. He was apprehended as he attempted to board a budget flight and was taken to a police station where his fingerprints, DNA, and mugshot were taken.
Following questioning, the footballer was released on bail. He is required to return to the police in late February 2026 pending further inquiries. The complainant in the case has been interviewed by sex crimes officers and is being offered support. Essex Police have confirmed the arrest and bail status.
