Cellphone video released by the White House shows Renee Nicole Good calmly stating "I'm not mad at you" before an on-duty ICE agent fatally shot her as she drove away. The 47-second clip, initially posted by Alpha News, captures the perspective of ICE agent Jonathan E. Ross. The Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin confirmed the video's authenticity, asserting that Good "weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill or cause bodily harm to federal law enforcement" and that the officer "was in fear of his own life."
In the video, Good is heard telling the agent, "That's fine, dude," and "I'm not mad at you" while in the driver's seat of her SUV, which was stopped across a roadway. Another person, identified as Good's wife Rebecca Good, is heard interacting with officers, stating they are US citizens and advising the agent to "go get yourself some lunch." As another officer orders Good to "Get out of the fucking car," she briefly reverses and then drives forward. The filming agent's phone points skyward after he is slightly brushed by the slow-moving vehicle, and gunshots are heard. A voice in the background says, "Fucking bitch," as Good's car drives away, followed by the sound of a crash. A dog in the back seat of the SUV was reportedly unhurt.
ICE agent Jonathan E. Ross, a 10-year veteran, was involved in an immigration sweep at the time of the shooting. Ross had previously been dragged by a vehicle in June during the arrest of an undocumented immigrant with a criminal conviction. While some law enforcement agencies restrict firing at moving vehicles, Senator JD Vance argued that the video showed Ross's life was endangered and he fired in self-defense. Minnesota officials and residents have criticized the Trump administration's narrative, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey telling ICE to "get the fuck out of" the city. Protests have occurred near the site of the killing, and some Democrats have threatened to withhold funding to the Department of Homeland Security. Rebecca Good released a statement emphasizing Renee's belief in compassion and kindness for all.
