New Texas manager Skip Schumaker has finalized much of his coaching staff for the upcoming season, including the additions of former Texas players Rod Barajas and Travis Jankowski. Barajas will serve as quality control coach and Jankowski as first-base coach.
The Texas Rangers announced ten members of Schumaker's staff, with one more major league coach to be added later. Six coaches are returning from former manager Bruce Bochy's staff, with four of them shifting to new roles, while four are completely new hires.
Returning staff in their same positions include bench coach Luis Urueta and assistant pitching coach Dave Bush. Jordan Tiegs will become the pitching coach, moving up from his previous role as bullpen coach, and Justin Viele has been named lead hitting coach, having previously been a co-hitting instructor.
Corey Ragsdale transitions to third-base coach after six seasons as first-base coach. Brett Hayes, previously the quality control coach, will now be the catching coach.
