Seventy-five Members of Parliament have written to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs requesting an independent review of the welfare of 15 Gentoo penguins at the Sea Life London Aquarium. The MPs express deep concern over the penguins being housed in a windowless basement enclosure with no access to natural light or fresh air, and a pool depth of only six to seven feet, which they argue is inadequate for the species. Conservationists like Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin have also voiced similar concerns, stating the environment does not support natural behaviors.
