A double-decker bus crashed into a bus stop in central Stockholm, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Emergency services responded to the incident, which occurred on Valhallavägen in the Östermalm district, and confirmed they were treating five victims, with two sustaining serious injuries.
The incident was reported to authorities around 3:23 pm on Friday. Police are investigating the crash as "involuntary manslaughter" and have detained the bus driver for questioning to ascertain the cause, which was not immediately clear.
The front of the bus sustained significant damage. According to emergency services, the bus was not in service and had no passengers on board at the time of the collision.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences, acknowledging the tragic loss of life and injuries, and extended his thoughts to those affected and their families.
