AquaStar Corp. has expanded its recall of frozen shrimp products due to possible radioactive contamination by Cesium-137. The company stated the shrimp was potentially exposed to very low levels of the radioactive substance. The expanded recall includes shrimp sold under the AquaStar, Best Yet, Publix, and Waterfront Bistro brand names.
Recalled AquaStar products include five-pound bags of Frozen Raw EZ-Peel White Shrimp sold at WinCo Foods in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Best Yet brand frozen raw EZ-peel white shrimp, distributed by C&S Wholesale grocery stores in California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont, is also affected.
Publix shoppers are advised to check for recalled AquaStar’s Raw Shrimp Easy Peel Deveined, Publix brand’s Extra Large Shrimp Easy to Peel Deveined, and Large Shrimp Peeled & Deveined Tail sold in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Waterfront Bistro brand two-pound bags of Frozen Raw EZ-Peel White Shrimp from Shaw’s and Star Market stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont are also part of the recall. The same Waterfront Bistro product sold at Safeway, Albertsons, Eagle, and Carrs-Safeway stores in Alaska, Idaho, and Washington is also included.
These products were imported from an Indonesian supplier, BMS Foods, which has been placed on a full import alert.
