Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has stated she is receiving threats following criticism from former President Donald Trump. Greene claims private security firms have contacted her with safety warnings, alleging that Trump, whom she previously supported, is fueling these threats.
She expressed shock that Trump's aggression, which she believes incites paid internet trolls, is directed at her despite her consistent voting record in support of his agenda. Trump had publicly attacked Greene on social media, calling her "wacky" and accusing her of complaining excessively, even suggesting he might support a primary challenger against her.
These attacks followed Greene's recent break with Trump and other Republicans, particularly her criticism of him for not prioritizing his "America First" agenda and her disagreement with GOP leaders over healthcare solutions during a federal government shutdown. Greene also mentioned her stance on the Jeffrey Epstein files as a reason for Trump's attacks.
She and three other Republican House lawmakers asked the White House to remove their names from a petition to force a vote on releasing these files. Greene has doubled down on her support for releasing the files, drawing a parallel to the fear experienced by Epstein's victims.
She questioned what might be in the files that is causing such pressure on Trump, who has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and has never been charged in relation to the Epstein case. Trump, in turn, has accused Democrats of using the Epstein case as a distraction from their own failures.
