Brown University sophomore Zoe Weissman, 20, expressed deep anger and shock after surviving a second school shooting. Weissman previously survived the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which claimed 17 lives.
She described feeling mentally transported back to her experience at 12 years old, experiencing the same emotions she felt in 2018. The recent shooting occurred on the Brown University campus on a Saturday evening while students were present, despite classes not being in session, as they were taking final exams before the winter break. The gunman killed two people and injured nine, remaining at large.
Weissman highlighted that this is not an isolated incident, mentioning other students who have survived multiple school shootings, such as those from Oxford, Michigan, who then attended Michigan State University and experienced another shooting there. She voiced concern that individuals like herself, having survived two such events, will become more common.
