US mass murderer George Banks dies in prison 43 years after rampage

George Banks, convicted of killing 13 people in a 1982 shooting rampage in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, has died in prison at the age of 83. Banks died of complications from kidney cancer at Phoenix state prison. The rampage occurred after Banks had been drinking at a party. He used an AR-15 rifle to kill 14 people, ultimately succeeding in killing 13, including his five children aged one to six, the mothers of his children, and several bystanders. After leaving his home, he stole a car and continued his killings before eventually surrendering to police after a four-hour standoff.
